Brief Biography of Dr Sunil Hirani:

BSc (Hons), BDS, MSc, FDSRCS (Eng), MOrthRCS (Eng), FDS (Orth), GCAP(KCL)
 
Dr Hirani graduated from Guy’s Hospital, London, England in 1996. 
 
He has a Master’s degree in Orthodontics and is a Fellow of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) and holds a Membership in Orthodontics from the RCS which was awarded in 2003. 
 
In 2005, he passed his exit fellowship, FDS (Orth) which is the highest marker of orthodontic training in the UK and obtained first place via examination (Gold medal winner). 
 
Dr Hirani is currently the Chairman of the British Lingual Orthodontic Society (BLOS) and British Dental Association (BDA). 
 
In 2022, he became a Titular member of the European Society of Lingual Orthodontics (ESLO) by examination. This is the highest level lingual board examination in Europe and obtained first place. As of 2022, there are about 50 orthodontists world-wide who have ever achieved this and Dr Hirani is the only orthodontist in the UK to have ever achieved this accolade.
 
He has published articles in leading journals such as the Journal of Orthodontics, Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, European Journal of Orthodontics and Orthodontic Update and presented to numerous societies around the world including the American Association of Orthodontists, British Orthodontic Society, Indian Orthodontic Society, Turkish Lingual Orthodontic Society, Australian Society of Lingual Orthodontics.
 
Dr Hirani works exclusively in private practice and has a strong interest in digital orthodontics, aligners, lingual orthodontics, skeletal anchorage and interdisciplinary care.

In 2023, he was awarded the Maurice Berman Prize for Clinical Excellence from the British Orthodontic Society. This is a once in a lifetime achievement award. It is the highest honour one can receive for their work in the field of clinical orthodontics. Less than 1% of British Orthodontists will ever achieve this accolade. Over the last 20 years, only 8 people (including Dr Hirani) have won this prize and many have failed.
